EAR AND HAIR ORNAMENT : A single ornament, usually consisting of a chain like band that passes over the head, to which earrings are attached, and by which the earrings, usually heavy, are supported (India). EAR PLUG : An jeweller piece worn by passing a part of it through a large hole performed in the earlobe or other ear part. EARRINGS : Ornament usually worn on the earlobe, and held to it by various devices such as studs, clips, loops, chain, sometimes with attachment to the hair to relieve the weight; with or without a pendant. Two basic types are those held by the insertion of a wire through the pierced lobe, and those held by a pressure device such as a screw or clip. EAR STUD : An ear ornament worn by inserting a stud through a performed hole in any part of the ear, ELECTROFORMING : The process of forming metal objects by using an electric current to deposit the metal in a mould. ELECTROPLATE : The process of coating base metal with another metal. EMBLEM : A button, stud, or pin worn only by those entitled to it by membership; decorated, often with enamel, bearing the symbols or in the form of a design adopted by a fraternal or service organization. EMBOSSING : Making raised design on the surface of metal. ENAMELLING : Enamel is a form of glass, and enamelling is the process of fusing it to metal under heat. ENGAGEMENT RING : A ring given as a sign of betrothal. ENGRAVING : The process of cutting shallow lines into metal with a sharp graver, reproducing artwork which has been drawn on a metal article. EPAULETTE : A shoulder ornament or badge consisting of a strap ending in a fringe, worn on officers' dress uniforms. ETCHING : Surface decoration bitten-in with nitric acid. ETERNITY RING : A circular ring set with continual band of stones, used as a wedding ring, symbolic of eternal love or fidelity. |
